Thermal management in radical induced cationic frontal polymerisation for optimised processing of fibre reinforced polymers

چکیده

Radical induced cationic frontal polymerisation (RICFP) is considered a promising low energy method for processing of fibre reinforced polymers (FRPs). Optimisation the local heat balance between reinforcement, epoxy resin and surrounding mould required to pave way its adaptation an industrial high volume fraction structural composites. In this work, we investigate several methods control governing in RICFP-processing FRPs. Heat generation was controlled by tuning initiator concentration while limitation losses using highly insulating moulds found beneficial front characteristics resulting curing degrees. An optimised configuration allowed self-sustaining RICFP FRPs with fractions (Vfs) up 45.8%, exceeding previously reported maxima similar systems. A process window moreover established relating Vf potential formation or supported front.

Radical polymerisation of styrene in porous coordination polymers.

The first radical polymerisation of styrene in porous coordination polymers has been carried out, providing stable propagating radicals (living radicals), and a specific space effect of the host frameworks on the monomer reactivity is demonstrated.

In-vitro MRI detectability of interbody test spacers made of carbon fibre-reinforced polymers, titanium and titanium-coated carbon fibre-reinforced polymers.

The purpose of this study was to investigate how different materials affect the magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) detectability of interbody test spacers (ITS). We evaluated the post-implantation MRI scans with T1 TSE sequences for three different ITS made of titanium, carbon fibre-reinforced polymers (CFRP) and titanium-coated CFRP, respectively. The main target variables were total artefact vo...

High molar mass polymers by cationic polymerisation in emulsion and miniemulsion.

The generation of poly(p-methoxystyrene) with a molar mass of several thousand g mol(-1) by cationic polymerisation in emulsion, is described here for the first time. Such a striking result was achieved by carrying out the polymerisation inside monomer droplets, thus preventing fast transfer reactions with water.

Introduction of Fibre-Reinforced Polymers − Polymers and Composites: Concepts, Properties and Processes

Fibre-reinforced polymer(FRP), also Fibre-reinforced plastic, is a composite material made of a polymer matrix reinforced with fibres. The fibres are usually glass, carbon, or aramid, al‐ though other fibres such as paper or wood or asbestos have been sometimes used. The poly‐ mer is usually an epoxy, vinylester or polyester thermosetting plastic, and phenol formaldehyde resins are still in use...

Fractional Thermoelasticity Model of a 2D Problem of Mode-I Crack in a Fibre-Reinforced Thermal Environment

A model of fractional-order of thermoelasticity is applied to study a 2D problem of mode-I crack in a fibre-reinforced thermal environment. The crack is under prescribed distributions of heat and pressure. The normal mode analysis is applied to deduce exact formulae for displacements, stresses, and temperature. Variations of field quantities with the axial direction are illustrated graphically....
